How to Write a Livestock or Equipment Listing That Sells

The short answer: A good farm listing has a specific title, a clear price and location, the details buyers always ask about, and several sharp photos taken in daylight. Be upfront about flaws. It saves everyone’s time and brings you more serious buyers.

Write a title buyers would search for

Say exactly what it is, with the details that matter. “Registered Black Angus Heifers – Salem, MO” beats “Heifers for sale.” “2008 Vermeer 504M Round Baler” beats “Baler.” Specific titles also show up better in Google.

Include the details buyers always ask about

  • Livestock: breed, age, sex, weight, quantity, health and vaccination history, and whether papers are available.
  • Equipment: make, model, year, hours, condition, and any recent repairs.
  • Hay and feed: type, cutting, bale size and weight, quantity, storage, and pickup or delivery.
  • Services: what you do, the area you cover, and how you price.
  • Everything: price, location, ZIP code, and the best way to reach you.

Take photos that help

  • Shoot in daylight, outside, with a clean background.
  • For livestock, show the whole animal from the side, plus the group.
  • For equipment, show every side, the engine, the tires, the hour meter, and any damage.
  • Add several photos. Buyers skip listings with one blurry picture.

Be honest and easy to reach

  • Mention flaws. Buyers will find them anyway, and honesty builds your reputation.
  • Price it fairly, and say whether you’re firm or open to offers.
  • Answer messages quickly. Buyers often contact several sellers at once.
  • Mark the listing sold when it’s gone, so buyers don’t waste a trip.

Common questions

How much does it cost to post a listing on GetFarmLinked?

Listings are free during our beta. Each listing is reviewed for prohibited or inappropriate content before it goes live, which usually takes less than a day.

How many photos should a farm listing have?

GetFarmLinked allows up to six photos per listing. Use all of them when you can: buyers want to see the whole animal or machine from several angles, plus any wear or damage.

GetFarmLinked is a marketplace platform that helps buyers and sellers connect. We do not inspect, own, guarantee, transport, or take custody of livestock or equipment. During beta, buyers and sellers may arrange payment and transportation directly. Online payments and transportation support are planned future features. Buyers and sellers are responsible for confirming animal health, ownership, movement requirements, transportation, payment terms, and all applicable rules before completing a sale.
